Therefore, autumn seems to have more festivals and holidays. The holiday customs may be different by county, but the harvesting of grains and fruits, cooking delicious food, and spending time with family is common.

#Wish it was always Chuseok

One of the most important holidays in South Korea is Chuseok, which is on August 15th of the lunar calendar.

There is a traditional Korean saying “No more no less, may it always be like Chuseok.” Chuseok, also known as Hangawi, is the most abundant holiday where family members gather to celebrate and eat the yearly harvest crops and fruits after performing the ancestral ritual.

Since autumn is the season of harvest, the whole family can sit around and make Songpyeon, a traditional Korean treat, and enjoy the newly harvest crops and fruits. Chuseok is also called the Moon Holiday because on Chuseok you can watch the full moon and make a wish.

What kind of Chuseok can we meet on Samsung themes?

There is also a tradition of eating ‘mooncake’, which is made rounded with flour and has a filling made from red beans and dried fruits. In the past, there was a tradition of performing ancestral ritual under the moon light and share the mooncake among family members. The mooncake has to be cut according to the number of family members.

#Let’s celebrate the Joy of Harvest: Thanksgiving Day

The fourth Thursday of November is Thanksgiving in America. It is one of traditional holidays in America and one of biggest holidays with Christmas and Easter. Thanksgiving has originated from the first harvest of the pilgrims. After the pilgrims moved to the new world, in order to show their gratitude they began to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Like Chuseok and Mid-Autumn Festival, Thanksgiving also has a similar custom, which the family gathers around to have a meal together. Turkey, pumpkin pie, and mash potato are the most famous food for Thanksgiving. The day after Thanksgiving is one of the biggest shopping day in North America called ‘Black Friday.’ This is also a day which the whole family can enjoy shopping together.

#Let’s share a beer at Erntedankfest

How does the beer loving country, Germany, spend their autumn?

When we think of Germany, we first think of the world’s biggest beer festival, Oktoberfest. Every year on the first Sunday of October, there is a harvest festival called Erntedankfest, which is a festival to show their gratitude toward the good harvest.

On Erntedankfest, there will be various events and fancy parades decorated with crops held. This festival is not only for families to enjoy, but it is also for everyone to enjoy. A crown could be made with the last harvest crops. Grapes, wheats, potatoes and other harvest crops can be shared as well. Since Germany is a beer loving county, beer will always be included.

Let’s feel the autumn charm of Germany with Samsung Themes.
